      Lameness Exams/Check ups:

A healthy musculosceletal system is one of the most important prerequisites for enabling maximum motivation of horses and their achievement of optimal performance. That`s why Equine Sports Medicine Services specializes in diagnosting and treating conditions causing lameness and orthopedic problems, as well as in prevention of lameness.

After a detailed medical history of the horse, we perform a thourough clinical exam of the musculoskeletal system and assess its gait/motion on different surfaces, while exercising on a lunge line and/or while being ridden. Based on the results of these assessments a treatment plan will be developped.

Flexion (Provocation) tests of the horse`s limbs and targeted diagnostic nerv blocks are used to identify pain points. Further diagnostic procedures including digital X-rays and ultrasound examinations are used to identify the cause of lameness even more precisely.

If required, additional diagnostic procedures such as scintigraphy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) will be arranged and supervised in the re in the appropiate referral clinics.

Regular vetetrinary check-ups and gait and motion- analysis can identify and resolve small problems very early. Optimizing the Management of the horse in collaboration with the rider, trainer, farrier and physical therapist  can maximize the performance and the rideabilty of the horse.
